Version 1.1 · Dated 25 October 2026 · Takes effect on the date SkillConnect Ltd publishes this document after founder adoption
Key points
Please read all of these terms. These are the points we most want you to notice:
- SkillConnect is a marketplace. Vendors are independent businesses, not SkillConnect employees, and the contract for the work is between the Customer and the Vendor (section 3).
- Payment for a Booking is normally released to the Vendor after the Customer approves the completed work or milestone. The Customer has seven days to approve the work or ask for changes. If the Customer does not respond, we do not release payment automatically because those seven days have passed: SkillConnect reviews the case and may authorise release (section 6).
- We aim to start an approved refund within 3 to 5 working days. This is a target for when we start it, not a guarantee of when the money reaches your account (section 7).
- Disputes are decided on evidence. Losing a good-faith Dispute is not a penalty (section 8).
- SkillConnect does not guarantee Vendors’ work, and our liability is limited as set out in section 14. Nothing in these terms removes rights you have under Nigerian law that cannot be excluded.
- Payments are not insured or guaranteed by SkillConnect (section 6.9).
1. About these terms
1.1 These terms are an agreement between you and SkillConnect Ltd (SkillConnect, we, us), a company registered in Nigeria (RC 1661539). They apply when you use the SkillConnect mobile app, the myskillconnect.com website, the Wedding Planner in the mobile app and the guest Event Planner on the website (together, the Platform).
1.2 By creating an account or using the Platform you agree to these terms and to the other documents they refer to: our Privacy Policy, Acceptable Use and Prohibited Activities Policy, Reviews, Ratings, User Content and IP Complaints Policy, Security and Account Protection Policy, Complaints Handling Procedure, Third-Party Service Providers Disclosure, Vendor Verification and Trust Disclosure, and Wedding Planner Terms and Guest Data Notice. If any of them conflicts with these terms, these terms apply, except that the Privacy Policy applies to personal information.
1.3 Key terms. Customer means a person who uses the Platform to find and pay for event services. Vendor means an independent person or business that offers event services on the Platform. User means a Customer, Vendor or any other person using the Platform. Job means a request for services posted by a Customer. Booking means an agreement between a Customer and a Vendor made through the Platform, and Service Agreement means the terms they agree for it. Dispute means a disagreement between a Customer and a Vendor about a Booking. Content means anything you post, upload, send or enter on the Platform. Working Day means Monday to Friday, excluding Nigerian public holidays.
1.4 If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Platform.
2. Your account
2.1 You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding contract to create an account.
2.2 You must give accurate information, keep it up to date and keep your login details secret. You are responsible for what happens on your account unless you tell us promptly that it has been compromised. See our Security and Account Protection Policy.
2.3 One person may hold one account, unless we agree otherwise. You must not use another person’s account or let someone else use yours.
2.4 A Vendor may be asked to verify identity with a National Identification Number (NIN) to receive the verified badge. What the badge does and does not mean is explained in our Vendor Verification and Trust Disclosure.
2.5 You can ask us to close your account at any time. See section 13.
3. What SkillConnect is and is not
3.1 SkillConnect provides a marketplace in the mobile app where Customers and Vendors find each other, agree work, communicate and pay for services. The myskillconnect.com website is mainly marketing and information, and also offers a guest Event Planner. We are not a party to the contract for the work, and we do not provide the services that Vendors offer.
3.2 Vendors are independent. They are not our employees, agents or partners. A Vendor is responsible for the quality, safety, legality and delivery of their services, for the accuracy of their profile and offers, and for holding any licence, permit or registration their trade requires. A Vendor must not impersonate another person or business.
3.3 Customers are responsible for providing accurate Job details and for paying through the Platform when they agree a Booking. We do not guarantee that any Vendor will perform, or that any Customer will pay or approve fairly. A verification badge or tier is not a guarantee (see our Vendor Verification and Trust Disclosure).
3.4 SkillConnect is not a bank, an insurer or a lender. We do not hold ourselves out as providing a licensed escrow or deposit service. Customer payments are processed through Paystack. Eligible amounts settle to SkillConnect’s Paystack merchant balance under Paystack’s Settled to Balance / Manual Payouts settings. SkillConnect normally initiates the Vendor payout after the Customer approves completed work. An eligible Dispute raised before payout can pause release while the issue is reviewed. Paystack processing costs and SkillConnect’s disclosed fees are accounted for. This is not a licensed escrow service and does not guarantee a refund or job quality.
3.5 There is no separate vendor agreement beyond these Terms and the linked policies. Creating a Vendor account means the Vendor agrees to these Terms, including the Vendor responsibilities in this section and in our Acceptable Use and Vendor Verification disclosures.
4. Jobs, Bookings and Service Agreements
4.1 A Customer may post a Job or contact a Vendor directly. Vendors may send quotations. A Booking is made when a Customer accepts a Vendor’s quotation or request through the Platform and the terms are recorded in the app.
4.2 The Service Agreement should describe what the Vendor will deliver, the price, the event date, any milestones, deposits, completion criteria and any cancellation terms. Both sides should keep the Service Agreement clear, because we will use it when deciding a Dispute.
4.3 Customers and Vendors must deal honestly and respond reasonably quickly to each other’s messages.
4.4 You must not arrange a Booking made through the Platform so as to avoid SkillConnect fees by dealing outside the Platform. See our Acceptable Use and Prohibited Activities Policy.
5. Fees
5.1 It is free to download the app and create an account.
5.2 SkillConnect may charge fees for using the Platform, such as a service fee on Bookings or a charge for withdrawing money. Any fee that applies to you will be shown in the app before you confirm a Booking or a withdrawal, and is included in the price you accept.
5.3 We may change our fees for future Bookings. We will give notice of a change at least 14 days before it applies, and a change will not affect a Booking you have already confirmed.
5.4 Payment providers and banks may charge their own fees. We will tell you where we know that one applies.
5.5 You are responsible for any tax you owe on money you earn through the Platform.
6. Payments and release
6.1 How you pay
Payments for Bookings made through the Platform are processed by Paystack, an independent payment provider. Paystack’s own terms and privacy notice apply to its services. We do not receive or store your full card details.
6.2 Unreleased Amount
When a Customer pays, the amount is recorded on the Platform as an Unreleased Amount for that Booking or milestone. An Unreleased Amount is SkillConnect’s record that a payment has been received for a Booking and has not yet been paid out to the Vendor. Customer payments are processed through Paystack and settle to SkillConnect’s Paystack merchant balance under Paystack’s Settled to Balance / Manual Payouts settings. This is not a licensed escrow or deposit account for the Customer. How payments are processed and settled is also described in section 6.9 and in our Third-Party Service Providers Disclosure.
6.3 Milestones
A Booking may be paid in milestones. The Customer pays each milestone as agreed in the Service Agreement. Release of each milestone follows the steps below.
6.4 Release by Customer approval
The Vendor tells us when the work or a milestone is complete. We notify the Customer. The Customer can then approve the work, ask for a correction, or raise a Dispute. When the Customer approves, that approval authorises SkillConnect to start the Vendor payout process for the Unreleased Amount for that Booking or milestone, after any fees that apply. Once money has been paid out to the Vendor, it may not be reversible through the normal pre-release process (see section 8.5).
6.5 If the Customer does not respond
The Customer has seven days to approve the completed work or ask for changes. We do not release payment automatically just because those seven days have passed. If a Customer does not respond:
we notify the Customer through the channels available to us and give them seven days to respond, which we will show in the app;
if there is still no response after those seven days, SkillConnect reviews the case and may authorise release;
a reviewer looks at the Service Agreement, the agreed completion criteria, the event date, the available records and messages, and any evidence either side gives;
the reviewer decides whether the work was sufficiently performed and whether release is justified, and may ask for more information;
we record the decision and our reasons and tell both sides, subject to privacy and fraud prevention.
A credible pending Dispute is dealt with before release. For event services we take the event date and any deliverables still outstanding into account.
6.6 Pauses
A relevant outage of the Platform or a provider that stops you from responding in time pauses the affected response period for as long as the outage lasts.
6.7 Withdrawing money (Vendors)
Released money appears in the Vendor’s balance. A Vendor can ask to withdraw it to a bank account in the Vendor’s own name. We aim to process withdrawal requests within 3 to 5 Working Days of the request, but processing also depends on Paystack, banks and other providers, and we do not guarantee when funds arrive. We may delay or refuse a withdrawal where we reasonably suspect fraud or a security risk, where the law requires, or while a Dispute that affects that money is open. We will tell you why unless the law prevents us.
6.8 Payments outside the Platform
Payments made outside the Platform are outside our payment and Dispute processes, and we may be unable to help with them. Do not pay by transfer to anyone who asks you to, outside the Platform.
6.9 What we do not promise
Payments made through the Platform are processed by independent providers. SkillConnect does not guarantee, insure or underwrite Customer payments or Vendor earnings, and nothing in these terms is a promise that a particular payment will be recoverable. Our obligations about payments are the ones stated in these terms and in the law.
6.10 Mistakes
If we or a provider make an error, for example a wrong amount or duplicate payment, we will correct it. You must tell us promptly if you notice one. We may adjust a balance to correct a clear error and will tell you.
6.11 Rewards and points
Points or rewards that we offer have no cash value unless and until we say so in written rules that we publish. They are a promotional benefit, can be withdrawn or changed for the future, and are not money.
6.10 Provider limits. Paystack or a bank may refuse, delay or reverse a payment under their own rules. SkillConnect cannot guarantee Paystack’s availability or that every payout will succeed. Where a provider restricts a payment, we will tell the affected User what we know and what options remain, without promising a specific outcome.
7. Cancellations and refunds
7.1 Cancelling a Booking. A Customer or Vendor may cancel a Booking as the Service Agreement allows. The Service Agreement should state any cancellation notice period or charge, and the app will show it before the Booking is confirmed. If it does not, we will decide fairly, taking account of the time before the event, the work already done and costs a Vendor has reasonably incurred. We do not impose a cancellation charge that is unfair or excessive.
7.2 When a refund can be requested. A Customer may ask for a refund where, for example, the Vendor did not perform, delivered something materially different from what was agreed, or the Booking was cancelled in line with the Service Agreement. A refund request is dealt with under section 8.
7.3 Our refund timetable. If a refund is approved, we aim to start the refund within 3 to 5 Working Days after the approval and after we have the information we need to process it. The time it then takes for the money to reach your account depends on Paystack, your bank and other providers. We do not guarantee that date, and we will tell you if a problem delays us and what happens next. This target does not reduce any right you have under the law.
7.4 Partial refunds. Where a Dispute is settled and the outcome includes a partial refund, we can refund part of the amount. Settling a Dispute does not by itself mean a refund, in full or in part. Where only part of a Booking has been performed, we may release a completed milestone and refund another. We do not promise a refund in every case.
7.5 Fees on refunds. We will tell you before a refund is made if any fee or charge will be deducted from it.
7.6 Legal rights. Nothing in this section removes rights you have under applicable Nigerian law. Refunds are assessed under these Terms, the Service Agreement and the circumstances of the Booking. We do not operate a blanket non-refundable deposit rule, and we do not promise a refund in every case.
8. Disputes
8.1 If a Customer and Vendor disagree about a Booking, either may raise a Dispute through the app or by writing to support@myskillconnect.com, as soon as possible and with the details and evidence. Please do not wait: evidence is easier to assess when it is recent.
8.2 We may hold an Unreleased Amount for the affected Booking or milestone from release while a Dispute is open.
8.3 We decide Disputes fairly, on the evidence, by looking at the Service Agreement, the agreed completion criteria, messages, photographs, videos, records and anything else the parties give us. We may ask either side for more. We treat both sides the same way. We do not decide that evidence is fake only because an AI tool scored it, metadata is missing or because of one screenshot. Both sides must cooperate reasonably during a Dispute, including providing relevant evidence when asked. Failure to cooperate may affect the outcome we can reach on the available record.
8.4 The outcome may be to release the payment to the Vendor, to refund the Customer, to divide the amount fairly (see section 7.4), or to take another step that is fair. We will tell both sides the outcome and our reasons.
8.5 After approval or payout. Once a Customer approves and money is released or paid out, it may be hard to recover it. We will still look fairly at a later complaint in cases such as fraud, a clearly mistaken approval or serious non-delivery, and take account of whether payout has already happened. We cannot promise to recover money that has been paid out.
8.6 No penalty for good faith. Losing a Dispute is not a breach of these terms. We do not deduct points, lower a trust score as a punishment or apply a similar sanction because a good-faith Dispute is unsuccessful. Sanctions require a substantiated finding of abuse, deception, fraud or another serious breach, are decided separately from the money outcome, and follow our Acceptable Use and Prohibited Activities Policy.
8.7 Complaints about us. A complaint about how SkillConnect handled a matter is separate. See our Complaints Handling Procedure.
8.8 Chargebacks. If a payment is reversed or challenged through a bank or card scheme, we may ask both sides for evidence and may adjust the Booking or balances to match the result.
8.9 Where a Dispute cannot be resolved between the parties, either side may take it to the Nigerian courts. Nothing here removes your legal rights.
9. Content
9.1 You keep the ownership of your Content. You give us the permission needed to run the Platform, as set out in our Reviews, Ratings, User Content and IP Complaints Policy.
9.2 Reviews must be honest and based on the Booking. In the current mobile app, Vendors cannot reply to reviews. See that policy for how reviews are handled and how to complain about copyright. Fake, paid or manipulated reviews are prohibited.
10. Conduct and rules
10.1 You must follow our Acceptable Use and Prohibited Activities Policy. In short: no fraud, no fake evidence, no impersonation, no abuse or harassment, no dealing outside the Platform to avoid fees and no breaking the law.
10.2 We may take action against an account as that policy describes. We will normally give reasons and a way to ask for a review, within 14 days of the decision.
11. Planners (website Event Planner and app Wedding Planner)
11.1 The guest Event Planner on this website and the Wedding Planner in the mobile app are personal planning tools. They are separate from marketplace Bookings. Anything you record there, including a payment note, is only a personal planning entry and is not proof of a marketplace payment. Website visitors cannot complete app-only marketplace transactions (Jobs, Bookings, payouts, Disputes or verification) on the website alone. See our Wedding Planner Terms and Guest Data Notice (which also covers the website Event Planner).
12. Privacy and security
12.1 We handle personal information as our Privacy Policy explains. We take reasonable steps to protect it, but no system is perfectly secure.
12.2 Report suspicious activity as described in our Security and Account Protection Policy.
13. Suspension, closing and ending
13.1 By you. You can ask to close your account at any time, in the app or by writing to support@myskillconnect.com. Within five working days of a verified request we close the account and remove it from active systems so you can no longer sign in. Closing is not the same as destroying every copy of every record immediately. We may retain, or later delete or de-identify, information where required for legal, financial, regulatory, fraud-prevention or Dispute resolution purposes — for example transaction records, payment information, verification records and records of unresolved Disputes — for the periods in our Privacy Policy. Backup copies may persist for a limited time until rotated. Closing your account does not cancel obligations for Bookings in progress or money owed.
13.2 By us. We may suspend or close an account, or limit its use, where you break these terms or our policies, where we suspect fraud or a security risk, where the law requires, or where you have not used the account for a long time. We will normally tell you why and how to ask for a review. Where there is a serious and immediate risk we may act first and explain afterwards.
13.3 If an account is closed, we will deal fairly with Bookings in progress and with money that is owed to or by you. We will not use a sanction as a way to keep money that belongs to someone else.
14. Our responsibility
14.1 We provide the Platform with reasonable care and skill. We do not promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or free from error, and we may change it, including by adding or removing features.
14.2 We are not responsible for the quality, safety or legality of Vendors’ services, for Customers’ or Vendors’ conduct, or for Content posted by Users, except where the law makes us responsible.
14.3 Subject to 14.4, SkillConnect is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as lost profits, lost opportunity or loss of an event, and our total liability to you for a claim arising from your use of the Platform is limited to the greater of the fees you paid to SkillConnect for the Booking concerned and N100,000.
14.4 Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any right you have as a consumer under Nigerian law.
14.5 If you are a Vendor, you are responsible to Customers for your services. You agree to compensate SkillConnect for reasonable losses we suffer because you break these terms, such as a claim brought against us over your work or Content, except where the loss is caused by us.
15. Events outside our control
15.1 We are not responsible for failure or delay caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as power or network failures, outages of providers, acts of government, floods, strikes or similar events. We will try to keep the effect on you small.
16. Changes to these terms
16.1 We may update these terms. We will give notice of material changes in the app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect, except where a change is needed urgently for legal or safety reasons. If you do not accept a change, you can close your account before it takes effect. A change does not apply to a Booking already confirmed, unless the law requires it.
17. General
17.1 Notices. We may contact you in the app, by email or by SMS using the details on your account. You can contact us at support@myskillconnect.com or at Imuereze Street, Off Upper Adesuwa Road, GRA, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria.
17.2 Transfer. We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another company that takes over the Platform, if your rights are not reduced. You may not transfer yours without our consent.
17.3 If part is unenforceable. If a part of these terms is found to be invalid, the rest stays in force.
17.4 Whole agreement. These terms and the documents named in section 1.2 are the whole agreement between you and us about the Platform.
17.5 Not giving up rights. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we do not lose it.
17.6 Third parties. Only you and SkillConnect have rights under these terms, except that Customers and Vendors have the rights these terms give them against each other through the Service Agreement.
17.7 Governing law and courts. These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Nigerian courts have jurisdiction over any dispute about them. This does not take away rights you have as a consumer under mandatory law, or the right to complain to a regulator.
17.8 Language. These terms are in English.
