Version 1.1 · Dated 25 October 2026 · Takes effect on the date SkillConnect Ltd publishes this document after founder adoption
Key terms. In this document: Platform means the SkillConnect mobile app, the myskillconnect.com website and the Wedding Planner in the mobile app and the guest Event Planner on the website. Customer means a person who uses the Platform to find and pay for event services. Vendor means an independent person or business that offers event services on the Platform. User means a Customer, Vendor or any other person using the Platform. Job means a request for services posted by a Customer. Booking means an agreement between a Customer and a Vendor made through the Platform, and Service Agreement means the terms they agree for it. Dispute means a disagreement between a Customer and a Vendor about a Booking. If our Terms and Conditions define these words differently, the Terms and Conditions prevail.
1. Purpose and scope
1.1 Customers choose Vendors on SkillConnect for weddings and other events, often for important and costly occasions. This document explains the labels and signals SkillConnect may show on Vendor profiles, what each one is based on, and what it does not tell you.
1.2 Capitalised terms have the meanings in our Terms and Conditions. “Verified” in this document always means that a particular check has been carried out and nothing more.
2. Core principle
2.1 A verification label is a statement about a check. It is not a recommendation, endorsement or guarantee by SkillConnect of any Vendor’s skill, honesty, safety, suitability or performance.
2.2 SkillConnect does not promise that a Vendor with a label will perform well, or that a Vendor without one will not. You should still read the profile, reviews and portfolio, ask questions, agree the details in writing and decide for yourself.
3. Identity verification (the NIN check)
What it is
3.1 A Vendor provides a National Identification Number (NIN). SkillConnect checks it using YouVerify and reviews the result manually. Dojah is not used.
3.2 If the check is successful, the profile shows a verified icon badge.
What it means
3.3 It means that, at the time of the check, the NIN supplied matched an identity record, in the way and to the extent SkillConnect’s check works.
What it does not mean
3.4 An identity check does not mean, and SkillConnect does not say, that the Vendor:
- has no criminal record or has had a criminal background check;
- has a professional qualification, licence, permit, certificate or accreditation;
- has insurance, or that any insurance is in force or adequate;
- is registered as a business, or is tax-compliant;
- is financially sound;
- has good quality of work, a good record or a good reputation;
- will turn up, perform the service or finish on time; or
- is the person who is actually doing the work on the day.
3.5 A match is not a guarantee that the person using the account is the person named on the NIN.
How the NIN is handled
3.6 SkillConnect stores the full NIN you provide in AWS, together with the result of the YouVerify check (reviewed manually). We use it only to verify your identity, to prevent fraud and to meet legal requirements, and we limit access to people who need it for those purposes. We do not retain NIN indefinitely. Details, including how long we keep it, are in our Privacy Policy.
3.7 The identity check is required to obtain the verified badge. A Vendor may choose not to provide a NIN and still use SkillConnect, but will not receive the verified badge and may not be able to use features that depend on it.
If a check fails
3.8 If a check fails, the Vendor will be told and given a chance to correct it or provide other information. A failed check is not a finding of dishonesty.
4. Trust tiers and other signals
4.1 SkillConnect may show tiers based on activity, such as “Trusted” and “Elite”, and other signals on a profile.
4.2 If a tier is shown, it is based on measures such as the number of completed Bookings, response rate or ratings over a period. We will describe the measure for each tier in the app.
4.3 A tier is a measure of activity on SkillConnect. It is not a measure of quality, honesty or safety. A new Vendor with no tier may be excellent. A tier does not mean SkillConnect has checked the Vendor’s work or conduct beyond what is stated.
4.4 Tiers are calculated using rules applied to all Vendors in the same way. We will not lower a Vendor’s tier as a punishment because a Customer made an unsuccessful good-faith complaint or Dispute. A tier may be lowered where the underlying measure changes (for example, a falling completion rate) or where an account sanction is applied following a substantiated finding under our Acceptable Use and Prohibited Activities Policy.
4.5 Where a tier or a label is removed, we will tell the Vendor and explain how to ask for a review. See our Complaints Handling Procedure.
5. Other things shown on a profile
5.1 Reviews and ratings. Reviews are opinions of the people who took part in a Booking. See our Reviews, Ratings, User Content and IP Complaints Policy. A rating is an average of opinions and may be based on few reviews.
5.2 Portfolio. Photographs and videos are posted by Vendors. SkillConnect does not check that they are the Vendor’s own work or that they reflect what will be delivered.
5.3 Vendor statements. Descriptions, experience, qualifications, prices and availability are given by the Vendor. Unless a label says SkillConnect has checked it, assume SkillConnect has not.
5.4 Completed Bookings. A number of completed Bookings shows that Bookings were recorded as complete on SkillConnect. It does not show that every Customer was satisfied.
6. Vendor responsibilities
6.1 Vendors must give accurate information, use only labels they are entitled to, keep documents and permits that their trade requires, and tell us if their circumstances change.
6.2 A Vendor must not claim or imply in advertising that a SkillConnect label shows more than this document says. Misleading use may lead to action under our Acceptable Use and Prohibited Activities Policy.
6.3 SkillConnect may re-check identity or ask for further information, for example if we suspect a mistake, account misuse or a change.
7. If a label is wrong
7.1 If you think a label is wrong or misleading, for example a Vendor has a label that does not match their position, or yours is missing or incorrect, write to support@myskillconnect.com with “Verification” in the subject line. We will check and correct it where we can.
7.2 If a Vendor loses a label unfairly, they can ask for review. See section 4.5.
8. Possible future checks
8.1 SkillConnect may in future add other checks, such as business registration checks, proof of address or checks of licences. None is offered today. We will not describe a check as available until it is, and will explain what it does and does not mean in the same way.
9. Changes and contact
9.1 We may update this document. Material changes to what a label means will be notified in the app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect, except where urgent legal reasons require otherwise.
9.2 Contact: support@myskillconnect.com.
